How Great is December?

I hate to think that I'm narrowing down from 1 post/week to 1 post/month. I love to blog, but sometimes there's just no time.

Anyway I don't think Christmas is over. Not until all the lights, lanterns, greetings, presents and stuff alike are gone will Christmas be over. I never want it to be over, but I'm comforted by the fact that there will be another Christmas next year.

Here's some recent events which made my December and pre-December great ... and some other interesting things that don't exactly have anything to do with it:

My friend Christine had her debut and five of us from Daniw were invited. So we went! Clara, Ria and I maxed-out our time near the chocolate fountain. You know what we did - yum yum. Isn't so exciting to dress up for formal occasions?

The feast of the Immaculate Conception is much celebrated in my town. I was walking the streets of Antipolo when I saw these fireworks overhead. I stopped to watch the display and I became so happy that when I sat in McDo to wait for my ride home, I texted greetings to those I haven't heard from for the longest time. Aren't traditions so beautiful?

Pizza Hut I love! My dormmate Rose (far left) treated four of us from our dorm for her birthday, and we ate three kinds of pizza while wearing kiddie party hats. Isn't more fun to eat when you didn't pay for it?

Absie and I went to the Young Blood 3 book launch at Greenbelt, then ate in Gonuts Donuts afterwards with co-journ Dyan. I ordered this Christmas-inpired "donut" just for fun, and this iced coffee for refreshment. I enjoyed the donut, but I learned not to buy iced coffee ever, ever again in this store. It's like a mortal sin.

Our Broad Comm gang went to Campus Radio one Friday for our documentary, and met with deejays Joe Spinner and John Hendrix. Joe showed us how the station operates and almost convinced us to work for them in the future. Isn't so enlightening to know how it is in the media?

Bigtime shopping is a fad every December. This time, I didn't participate. I just don't anymore find shopping so fulfilling like I used to. I once said that shopping is the total rehab. Well, I was half wrong. Doesn't make people even crazier?

On Turtles and Philosophy

Things here and there. Got to do them all. Don't know where to start. Like for one, post something on this long-abandoned blog. But that's okay. Abandonment and detachment are virtues anyway. Oh yeeh.

I was thinking of what to blog about today, then I resolved to post something about turtles and my appeal for more turtle exposure in the media. I actually think they're underrepresented. One memorable turtle is Squirt from Finding Nemo. I posted a picture of the little guy here.

An age-old philosophy text and a turtle.

I think the world will be a better place if humanity knows more about these creatures. Even I need to educate myself. I just feel sad that so few turtles make it to the mainstream media. Why are there so many birds, fishes, lions, farm animals, and snakes? Turtles are way cuter and more interesting! Can you name a memorable turtle personality besides from those of Aesop's? Yup, just a few. Sad, huh?

I'm reading a text by the medieval philosopher Boethius, Consolation of Philosophy. Our teacher didn't really require us to read all five books but I'm planning to do so though I can't entirely understand it. I admit that sometimes I get lost in Philosophy class when I spend the whole time wondering where my philo major classmates get their wisdom. I can talk about the media for an entire day, that's my edge, while they share the knowledge with some of the greatest brains ever to be buried (or cremated) on earth. We live in two very different words - Mass Comm and College of SS and Philosophy. Still, I love our 11-student class. After every Philo 111 session, I feel so heated that I want to know more. An hour and a half is not enough time to learn something so fascinating and mind-boggling at the same time.
